Shape the Future of AAACN: Apply Now for the 2027 Election

Are you interested in running for a position of Director on AAACN's Board of Directors or as a Member of the Nominating Committee?

The Nominating Committee is seeking dedicated individuals to join AAACN’s Board of Directors and help drive the association’s mission, vision, and strategic plan forward. They are also looking for qualified members to serve on the Nominating Committee, which plays a key role in selecting future leaders.

Director (Two Positions Available): Serves a three-year term, guiding the association through strategic initiatives, innovative programs, and member empowerment to foster growth and success.
Nominating Committee Member (Two Positions Available): Serves a two-year term, responsible for identifying, recruiting, and nominating eligible candidates for elected positions, as well as overseeing the annual election and awards and scholarships process.

Timeline for Applicants

Applications are due by Monday, June 1
June - Nominating Committee members will review the applications
July - Applicants will be contacted with results and receive the next steps for the election
October - Meet the Candidates video for members to view
November 1 - Election begins through Dec 6
Mid December - Candidates are contacted with election results

AAACN is seeking qualified candidates to serve on the 2027-2028 Program Planning Committee. This volunteer position is a two-year commitment.

Program Planning Committee Member Responsibilities:

Review and evaluate abstracts
Select appropriate topics and speakers for the program
Assure content is congruent with the AAACN Scope and Standards of Practice for Professional Ambulatory Care Nursing, the Scope and Standards of Practice for Professional Telehealth Nursing, and the Scope and Standards of Practice for Registered Nurses in Care Coordination and Transition Management
Follow up with speakers as necessary
At Annual Conference, participate in all activities assigned to committee members
Must be available to attend the in-person annual planning weekend (tentative end-of-September)

Candidate Qualifications:

Active member of AAACN
Knowledge and experience in ambulatory care nursing
Knowledge of current ambulatory care nursing issues and trends
Knowledge and experience in applying principles of adult education
Experience in planning NCPD activities preferred
Ability to participate in virtual meetings, sometimes held weekly, and respond to email within 48 hours
Must commit to attending the 2027–2028 Annual Conferences in person (Committee members receive complimentary conference registration for both years.)

Position Statement and Paper Task Force

Help Shape the Future of Ambulatory Care Nursing Leadership

AAACN is seeking members to join the Ambulatory Care Nursing Leadership Structure Position Statement and Paper Task Force, a new initiative focused on defining and strengthening nursing leadership frameworks across ambulatory care settings.

As health care systems become increasingly complex, clear leadership and reporting structures are essential for communication, accountability, and effective decision-making. This task force will explore how nursing leadership models can best support autonomy, collaboration, and improved patient outcomes.

Members will develop AAACN’s official position statement and paper outlining best practices and guiding principles for ambulatory care leadership, as well as a Companion Implementation Framework with practical tools—such as sample organizational charts and communication models—to help nurse leaders apply these concepts in their own organizations.

By establishing clear leadership structures, this work will elevate nurse leaders’ influence, strengthen standards of excellence, and enhance patient safety and outcomes. The task force’s work is expected to take approximately one year, with members meeting regularly and collaborating closely with AAACN leadership and the Board Liaison.

We are looking for AAACN members to serve on this Task Force who:

Have experience with research of literature
Have skills in writing and editing
Have the desire to improve the quality of health care and elevate and advocate for the role of the RN in ambulatory care
Can commit the time to this Task Force's work (several hours per week for approximately 6–8 months)

To address legislative issues, nurses must be aware of the power we have as respected professionals to influence health care policy. Our goal is to encourage nurses to take advantage of the power we have in numbers and influence to affect the shaping of healthcare policy and to become politically active in the legislative process.

AAACN’s Advocacy Committee is seeking new members to help further the goal of shaping healthcare policy. Members meet monthly and collaborate in a variety of ways, including reaching consensus on which legislative initiatives to support on behalf of AAACN, seeking opportunities for proactive advocacy on behalf of ambulatory care nurses, writing ViewPoint articles, and more.

We are looking for members who:

Have passion and enthusiasm for advocating for ambulatory care nurses
May have knowledge of the legislative process (not required, but preferred)
Can devote time for monthly meetings and special projects
