U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) Recommendations

Created in 1984, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force is an independent, volunteer panel of national experts in prevention and evidence-based medicine. The Task Force works to improve the health of all Americans by making evidence-based recommendations about clinical preventive services such as screenings, counseling services, and preventive medications.

Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS)

HCAHPS On-Line, the official HCAHPS Web site, houses a series of tables that summarize current and historic HCAHPS results. These HCAHPS Tables, available exclusively on HCAHPS On-Line, are based on the HCAHPS data participating hospitals submit to CMS. Before being publicly reported, data are adjusted for the effects of patient-mix and mode of survey administration.

Patient-Reported Outcomes in Performance Measurement

Patient-reported outcomes (PROs) are defined as “any report of the status of a patient’s (or person’s) health condition, health behavior, or experience with healthcare that comes directly from the patient, without interpretation of the patient’s response by a clinician or anyone else.” NQF, with funding from the Department of Health and Human Services, brought together a diverse set of stakeholders who could facilitate the groundwork for developing, testing, endorsing, and implementing PRO performance measures.
