Are you interested in running for a position of Director on AAACN's Board of Directors or as a Member of the Leadership Development and Nominating Committee?
On May 1st, The Leadership Development and Nominating Committee, will begin accepting applications and determine which candidates will run on the 2026 Ballot. All applicants are vetted by the Leadership Development and Nominating Committee and interviewed by the committee members.
Timeline for Applicants:
- Applications are due by June 2, 2025
- June - Leadership Development and Nominating Committee members will vet applicants to interview
- July/August - Interviews take place
- August - Applicants will be contacted with interview results and receive next steps for the election
- October - Meet the Candidates video for members to view
- November 1 - Election begins thru Dec 6
- Mid December - Candidates are contacted with election results
AAACN Board of Director, oversees the business and fiscal management of AAACN, provide strategic direction and active leadership. Serving as a Director is 3-year commitment.
Responsibilities
- Prepare for and attend three board meetings per term: 1½ day meeting immediately prior to the AAACN Annual Conference, and two 2/3-day meetings each fall/winter.
- Participate in 11 monthly 90-minute conference calls per year held during business hours.
- Attend AAACN Annual Conference and all associated activities.
- Serve as Board Liaison to committees, task forces, or Special Interest Groups (SIGs); provide leadership for other activities as delegated by the President.
- 10-20 additional hours per month may be spent on specific Board assignments, (ie. responding to email, reviewing articles, writing charters, performing liaison duties, and participating in conference calls, discussions, and decision making).
- Treasurer and Secretary are selected from among the Directors. Each requires an average of 1-2 additional hours per month.
- The Treasurer, during budget development process, spends an additional 1-2 hours reviewing the budget with Chief Executive Officer.
- Secretary reviews minutes, requiring about 1 additional hour per month.
- Time estimates do not include travel time.
Qualifications
- Occupy a leadership role in ambulatory care nursing.
- Active AAACN member for 2+ years preceding election.
- Participation in AAACN leadership activities, e.g. committees, task forces, or Special Interest Groups (SIGs).
- Have attended at least two recent Conferences.
- Organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to meet Director role responsibilities, including attendance at meetings, for duration of term.
- Serving as a Director is 3-year commitment.

The Leadership Development and Nominating Committee consists of three members, a board representative, and Immediate Past President as Chair. Due to the integral role this committee plays in selecting future leadership of AAACN, active participation is required throughout term. Selection of ballot candidates takes place in the three months following the AAACN Annual Conference.
Responsibilities
- Identify, solicit, and nominate current AAACN members as candidates to run for elected offices.
- Solicit candidates for the following year’s ballot prior to transferring responsibilities to new committee at the conference.
- Ensure candidates are qualified and understand time commitments for each office.
- Oversee annual and any special election processes.
- Review annual Award and Scholarship applications and select recipients.
Qualifications
- Active AAACN member with broad organizational experience (e.g. served on committees, task forces, or Special Interest Groups (SIGs) to provide Committee members with general knowledge of members who are active within AAACN.
- Possess skills to identify leadership qualities in individuals; willing to encourage and motivate members to run for office.
- Able to attend the AAACN Conference for face-to-face meeting, which kicks off the committee’s work for the year. Other activities take place via conference call and email.
- Comfortable with time commitment: Leadership Development and Nominating Committee positions generally require 30-40 hours annually. On occasion, additional time may be required for special projects.
- Serving on this committee is a 2-year commitment
